Shocking footage was uploaded today of a public meeting between three armed militant groups in Al-Bab, Aleppo.
The video was uploaded by an “independent activist” group, “Al-Bab For All”.
Three militant groups, Ahrar al-Sham, Jabhat al-Nusra and the Free Syrian Army are seen represented by commanders, are seen announcing a merger.
The crowd recorded chant the Shuhada (proclimation of faith) and proceed to call for Jihad.
The announcement comes after major headlines over the last few days, specifically, the lifting of the EU embargo which will open the door for arms to be handed to militant groups. Additionally, Syria Report, with a report from Al-Jadeed TV in Lebanon, lifted the lid on the nature of American Senator John McCain’s visit to Syria. McCain’s visit included posing for photographs and meeting with senior militant figures responsible for kidnap of Lebanese pilgrims in 2012.
Keen observers will not see this announcement as a surprise. As far back as October 2012, details emerged of an attack on an Aleppo air defence base. The attack saw Jabhat al-Nusra command a “Free Syrian Army” unit.
The following video of the event marking the merger adds credence to the view held by many – arming the “Free Syrian Army” is equal to arming Al-Qaeda, of which Jabhat al-Nusra is a brand.
Video’s Original Title: مدينة الباب اجتماع كبير لألوية وكتائب الثوار كافة من مجلس عسكري وجبهة نصرة وكتائب احرار الشام
English: City Door a large meeting of the rebel brigades and battalions all of the military council [FSA] and the Victory Front [Jabhat al-Nusra] and Ahrar Al-Sham Brigades.
The map shows the location of McCain’s visit, Azzaz and of the location where today’s footage was taken, Al-Bab.
